What is Gnosis?
Gnosis is a type of knowledge that comes through direct, personal experience; it cannot be learned through traditional means, such as reading or listening to lectures. It is the comprehension of spiritual truths that arises from within, and forms the foundation of all genuine spiritual traditions.
Gnosis is an ancient path of knowledge that leads to self-realisation and spiritual liberation. It is a holistic wisdom that embraces spirituality, philosophy, science, and art, aiming to awaken higher states of consciousness and put us in touch with our inner divinity.
Gnosis encourages unity and understanding by revealing the common threads of truth, love, and wisdom, which exist within all of humanity. It helps to dissolve the illusion of separation, allowing us to recognise the divine spark that exists in ourselves, and in all others.

A Universal Wisdom
Gnosis, also known as the “Doctrine of Synthesis,” is a universal system of knowledge that brings together the essential truths found in ancient mystery schools, religions, and esoteric traditions. Yet, Gnosis does not originate from any one of these systems—it predates all religions, appearing throughout time as a living wisdom, revealed only to those initiated into the mysteries.
The Gnostic teachings shared in centers around the world today are rooted in the writings and practices of Samael Aun Weor, a great spiritual teacher who drew from the wisdom of philosophers, mystics, and adepts across the ages, synthesising their insights into a coherent and practical path for self-knowledge and spiritual awakening.
The contemporary Gnostic movement began in the 1950s in Colombia and has since spread across the globe—including the Americas, Europe, Asia, Australia, and Africa.

Know Thyself: The Heart of the Gnostic Tradition
"Man, know thyself, and thou shalt know the universe and the gods." The inscription at the temple of Delphi carries the essence of the Gnostic tradition: self-knowledge is the doorway to every deeper truth.
The Ontological Gnostic Association of South Africa teaches this timeless science as it has been preserved in the world's genuine esoteric schools — the practical work of self-observation, meditation and the elimination of the psychological defects that veil the consciousness, in the lineage of Samael Aun Weor.
